monotone (adj) Having one sound or tone. The professor’s monotone voice put us to sleep at 8 in the morning.

monophobia (n) Fear of being alone. Mr. McManus does not have monophobia; in fact, he prefers to be alone.

Union (n) The combination of several items into one. The United Nations is a union of countries coming together to solve world issues.

unison (n) Sung with one voice. When their favorite song began, the crowd immediately sang in unison. It gave me chills.

monogamy (n) Having one spouse. The monogamy in my parents’ relationship has lasted 40 years.

unique (adj) One of a kind. A unique wardrobe will set you apart from the crowd.

monopoly (n) Control of sales by one person or company. People often believe that Microsoft is a monopoly, but there are competitors out there.

monolith (n) One single, large stone or monument. The giant stone monolith appeared out of no where and seemed to signal our doom.

Deepen (v) If you deepen your knowledge of something, you learn more about it or strengthen what you already know. Ask questions or make observations to deepen your understanding of a topic or issue.

Collaborate (v) If you collaborate, you work together with other people. Collaborating with other students by sharing ideas with each other.
