LHCb Data Challenge in 2002 A.Tsaregorodtsev, CPPM, Marseille DataGRID France meeting, Lyon, 18 April 2002
2
LHCb – experiment to study CP violation in the beauty system : One of the LHC experiments at CERN ; ~450 participants from ~50 labs and institutes ; ~1 PB of data per year ; ~5 Tier1 Centers, ~10 Tier2 centers LHCb
3
LHCb DC 2002 Dates: 2 periods 3-30 June and 26 Aug – 22 Sep ; ~100-150 CPU dedicated at CERN ; ~300-350 CPU will be available outside CERN ; Sites participating: CC/IN2P3, Bologna, RAL, Oxford, Bristol, Edinburgh, NIKHEF, … CC/IN2P3 alone: ~50 Linux CPU’s ; ~3-4 TB of data to be produced.
4
LHCb DC 2002(cont’d) Program : New data model validation with high volume data new event model; persistancy format (ZEBRA Root) ; Production : simulation (FORTRAN) + reconstruction(C++/Gaudi) in one job; various event types (physical background, special channels, etc) ; Volume : ~15 TB of data ; Data are to be shipped to CERN.
5
LHCb DC 2002(cont’d) Tools to be used : Setting LHCb software environment at various sites ; Software installation toolkits with precompiled binaries ; A set of interconnected servlets to capture job information and to submit jobs remotely ; Monitor job status using PVSS based tools ; Prototypes of new data management databases ; bbftp for data transfer to CERN/Castor store ; Data quality checking tools based on the LHCb Analysis framework.
6
DC vs DataGRID This are not DataGRID tests ! Nevertheless - there are DataGRID components that can be used: remote job submission to some centres (CC/IN2P3, RAL, …) data moving with GDMP : e.g. CC/IN2P3 CERN ; GDMP tests are in progress ; direct GDMP/GRIDFTP access to HPSS and Castor is necessary: SE’s are limited; efficiency matters. bookkeeping with Spitfire service.
