6. 8 th Pouch (26.24-25) Dante compares the fireflies to the flickering flames he noticed first as he gets to the 8 th pouch

13. Summary As Dante and Virgil began to leave the 7 th pouch, he noticed that Florence’s earthly reputation was the same in hell. Once they got to the 8 th pouch, Dante noticed flames like fireflies flickering the whole pouch. As he paid close attention, he realized that each flame had a sinner in it. One in specific was Odysseus and Diomedes. Odysseus explains to Virgil his reasons for being there. He did not speak to Dante because Virgil had advised Dante not to speak since Greeks did not have respect for those who did not speak their language.
