Think a minute. Then, together, let’s discuss: at the end of Chapter Seven, we find Jem crying after learning about the tree being filled with concrete. 1. How do you interpret his sorrow? Warm-up: At the end of Chapter Seven, we see Jem crying after learning of what Nathan Radley has done (taking away their treasures and restricting Boo from communicating). Some might interpret this as Jem’s first understanding of the cruelty of human beings. As young adults, you have likely come across a moment when you realized how cruel human beings can be. Write a journal entry in which you describe a time when you had a realization of the cruelty that humanity can display.
