1 Ch 29 Progressivism ID- GOP Divided by Bull Moose Equals Dem. Victory (680) Summary 1- Who are the three candidates running for President caricatured in this painting? –President Taft, Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson

2 1) Identify the New Freedom and who championed it? –Wilson- Gov. idea was to break up monopolies, support small business’ (take Progressivism even further) 2) What were several of TR’s ideas that were shared with Herbert Croly? Roosevelt- New Nationalism- regulate industry, support workers (minimum wage, workers compensation, women's suffrage, limit workday and week) –All these ideas are part of out society today

3 3) What made the campaign of 1912 so unique? –Third political party (Bull Moose- TR’s party he started after he lost Rep. nomination) was competitive (and 4 th showed up) Eugene Debs- Socialist Party- Government should control major industries and share the wealth ( won 6% of vote) Result- Wilson (Dem) won 42% of vote, TR (Bull Moose Party) 27%, Taft (Rep) 23%
