1 Today is Monday, November 9 th No warm-up today!: During class, you will be given time to watch your most recent presentation While others watch, you will be writing out some sample note cards You will write some key ideas on these cards Your group members will evaluate them Ms. Traughber will come around and give you some feedback At the end of class, you will get your compare and contrast paragraphs back

2 What are the guidelines for using these? How much information should be on each one? What should that information look like? Why does it matter how these are structured?

3 Today is Tuesday, November 10 th Warm-up: 1. What does the word inflection mean? 2. Why is it important to adjust inflection according to each situation? 3. How do you think an instructional speech would look/sound? 4. What are some components you would expect to see? Get out your notes!

6 Today is Thursday, November 12 th Warm-up: 1. How would you define “cause”? 2. How would you define “effect”? 3. What is a signal word or phrase you could use to explain a cause? 4. What is a signal word or phrase you could use to explain an effect? Get out your notes!

7 Get your notebooks open! Title the page “Cause and Effect” Get ready to take some notes!

8 What is the difference between a cause and an effect? Write a sentence that explains a cause and an effect using a signal word. Circle the cause and underline the effect in your sentence.

9 Today is Friday, November 13 th Warm-up: Identify the cause, the effect and the signal word in each sentence: 1. I spilled coffee on my white shirt, so it was stained. 2. The boy hit the baseball at the house, and as a result, the ball broke the window. 3. A dog was sick because he ate out of the garbage. 4. After Katie found five dollars, she decided to go buy candy. 5. If you hit a classmate, you will be suspended. 6. He was cold; thus, he put on a sweatshirt.
