1
Graph the equation of the line, using slope-intercept form and then find the intercepts: 1. y = 2x+1 2. 5x+3y= -15
3
Writing equations of lines: Slope-intercept form: Use when you’re given the slope, m, and the y-intercept, b. y = mx + b Point-slope form: Use when given the slope, m, and a point, and then use Two Points: Use when given 2 points, to find the slope: then once you’ve found the slope, use pt-slope formula.
4
Write the equation of the line shown:
6
Write an equation of the line that passes through (2,3) and has a slope of ½.
7
Write an equation of the line that passes through (7,-4) and has a slope of 2/5.
8
Write an equation of the line that passes through (-2,-1) and (3,4)
9
Write an equation of the line that passes through (-8,8) and (0,1)
10
Write an equation of the line that passes through (3,2) and is a) parallel and b) perpendicular to the line y = -3x + 2

2.4 (cont) Slope Word Problems p. 93 & 94
13
In 1970 there were 160 African American women in elected public office in the United States. By 1993 the number had increased to 2332. Write a linear model for the number of African American women who held office at any given time between 1970 & 1993. Then use the model to predict the number that will hold office in 2010.
14
Remember average rate of change can represent slope. (Women per Year). m = change in women = 2332 - 160 change in years 1993-1970 ≈ 94.4 (women per year) Now use this as slope in your linear model.
15
Number of Office holders = Number in 1970 + Average rate Of change * Years since 1970 Number of officeholders = y (people) Number in 1970 = 160 (people) Average rate of change = 94.4 (people/year) Years since 1970 = t (years) y = 160 + 94.4 t In 2010, 40 years from 1970, you can predict: y = 160 + 94.4 (40) ≈ 3936
