2 Why did the United States form? “A New Nation” 1. The Colonies protested England’s laws and taxes. 2. The American Revolution took place, where a fight happened to overthrow the government. 3. Colonial leaders meet in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to write and sign the Declaration of Independence.

3 Capitals of the United States 1789-1790 Capital was New York City, New York 1790-1800 Capital was Philadelphia 1800-Present Capital is Washington, D.C.

4 Why did immigrants come to the United States? 1. To find jobs 2. To own their own land 3. To escape war and other hardships 4. Hoped to find a better life

5 What ports did most Europeans come through when arriving at the United States? Ellis Island located in New York

6 Famous Immigrants  Alexander Graham Bell  Andrew Carnegie  Albert Einstein  Madeleine Albright

7 Immigrants Coming to the United States  Different Language  Different Culture  Effects them from getting jobs and making money TTraining or classes to teach them about American heritage. What problems might immigrants face when coming to the U.S.? How could these problems be solved?
