2.  A style and movement in art, a new type of image was created using geometric shapes, dark and light shades, and forceful lines, to create a new type of image.  A non-objective approach to painting

3.  The name was suggested by Henri Matisse in 1909  Developed originally in France by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque around 1906.

4.  “Pre-Cubist" period (to 1906)  Between 1909 and 1911, the analysis of human forms and still lifes led to the creation of a new stylistic system---to transpose the three-dimensional subjects into the flat images on the surface of the canvas.

6. English art historian Douglas Cooper describes three phases of Cubism:  "Early Cubism", (from 1906 to 1908)  "High Cubism", (from 1909 to 1914)  "Late Cubism" (from 1914 to 1921)
