4 Family Teach the customs and traditions Children learn to dress, be polite, eat, play Types of Families Nuclear Mother, father and children Industrial nations (America, Great Britain, Germany) Adults work outside home Have money to buy what they need Use machines for work (vacuum, auto)

5 Family Extended Family Several generations Parents, children, grandparents aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives Live together or close by Older people respected pass on traditions More popular as more families move into cities

7 Social Classes Rank people in culture Persons status may come from Wealth Land Ancestors Education In the past it was almost impossible to move from one group to another Today that has changed

10 Beliefs Basic of culture Helps people understand the world Provide comfort, hope during difficult times Answers questions about the meaning/purpose Defines values of a culture…which they feel are important Religion guides people in ethics/standards of accepted behavior

11 Religious Beliefs Vary Islam, Judaism and Christianity believe in one God Others worship multiple All have prayers/rituals Celebrations
