What’s Up in Kindergarten - January December is always a busy month and Kindergarten is no exception. Most enjoyed were our classroom celebration and the PTA’s Winter Wonderland. We even had a visit from Santa! The big events for January are “Red Market” (our Chinese New Year celebration - apologies that we are unable to invite all parents) and the 100th day of school on Friday, January 6th, upon our return from the holiday.

What’s Up in Kindergarten - January During Writer’s Workshop we’ve been focusing on making our writing easier to read by leaving spaces between words, writing all the sounds we hear, spelling “word wall” words correctly, including a simple, clear picture, and writing neatly. We also attended writing celebrations for Ms. Cook’s Kindergarten class and Ms. Jacob’s second grade class!

What’s Up in Kindergarten - January We have begun a new science unit called “Animals Two by Two. We are currently observing goldfish and will subsequently move on to snails, worms, and pill bugs (rolly pollys.)

What’s Up in Kindergarten - January Both Cindy and Satoko have left TAS. We will miss them. We welcome our new student, Chance.

What’s Up in Kindergarten - January - Reminders: Keep your home project of collecting and displaying 100 items simple. Focus on the process and displaying of items in an easy to count manner, as opposed to a beautiful finished product. This does not need to be elaborate or time consuming unless you choose to make it so. 100 toothpicks, beans, cheerios, rubber bands, paper clips, etc. are all good easy options! All important information provided in this online newsletter will also reach you by email, hard copy, or both. You will also receive all pictures from the ebooks, photo galleries, and newsletters on a CD at the end of the year. While the links and ebooks accessible on the Kindergarten website are educational, please remember that most young children already get more screen time (television/computer/games) than is healthy for them! I would venture that a good conversation with you might better suit their growth. :)
