The Compromises Illinois senator proposed amendment prohibiting slavery in the Louisiana Purchase territory north of Missouri’s southern border Allowed slavery to expand into Arkansas territory south of Missouri

Henry Clay – Kentucky Congressman who managed the vote of Missouri Compromise By pairing admittance of free and slave states the hope was to quiet dispute over expansion of slavery

Presidential Elections of 1824 & 1828 1824 Election had 4 candidates All “favorite sons”, men who enjoyed support of leaders from own state, region The candidates were: Henry Clay of Kentucky Andrew Jackson of Tennessee (“Old Hickory”) John Quincy Adams of Massachusetts William Crawford of Georgia – ran on states’ rights
