2 Meet La Porte ISD Located about 25 miles southeast of Houston Roughly 7800 students 3700 elementary 4000 secondary 12 campus 7 elementary 1 sixth grade campus 2 junior high 1 high school 1 alternative school 85-90% have internet access at home Student Technology Initiative (STI Program) Grade Level Ratio (student: device) Configuration K-5 th 5:1 Stations and collaboration 6-12 th 1:1 Class set and Check out hybrid 9 th 1:1 Assigned for class and at home use

4 Goals for Office 365 Implementation & Transformation Goals: Ease into it, try not to overwhelm Give an overview of changes/differences (use current Office Suite knowledge) Introduce cloud basics Demonstrate, allow for hands on practice

6 Timeline of Implementation August 2014: Student Office 365 accounts come online March 2015: Technology Dept. Office 365 accounts come online May 2015: District accounts come online Offer short training sessions on accessing Office 365 accounts, and email Post link to Office 365 log in page on district web page, remove old email log in page Create Office 365 click sheets August 2015: district mass staff development

10 Successes, Setbacks, Solutions OneDrive Success OneDrive eased the collaboration amongst staff and students. Staff and students are able to access their work and communicate from anywhere that has internet access. Setback Sharing between students and teachers does not appear in “Shared with Me” folder. Solution The live link to a document or folder can be: emailed to students. shared on a teacher webpage.

11 Successes, Setbacks, and Solutions OneNote Success the Staff Notebook functions well and is currently being piloted by a jr high. Setback the Class Notebook 365 app is not functional with multiple tenants. Solution teachers can share read-only OneNote documents with students as a way to distribute class materials. (syllabi, notes, assignments, etc.)

12 Successes, Setbacks, and Solutions PowerPoint & Office Mix Success Teachers have the ability to flip their lessons (in some cases) Teachers are able to create a Mix, and incorporate it into substitute plans Setback Office Mix annotations do not play back when viewing the Mix as a slide show. Multi-tenant configuration made keeping Mixes in-house impossible Solution Presentations may be uploaded to the Office Mix website or exported to video format in order to play back annotations. Mixes can be set to be private and unlisted, but viewable through hyperlink.
