3 Most rocks are mixtures of minerals.

4 TWO TYPES OF ROCKS: 1.Monominerallic – made up of just one type of mineral. Ex: Rock salt : mineral is halite Ex: Limestone : mineral is calcite

5 2.Polyminerallic – a mixture of minerals Ex: Granite= quartz, feldspar, biotite, amphibole

6 Rocks are classified according to their origin How they formed What they formed from Temperature and pressure as they formed

7 THREE CLASSIFICATIONS OF ROCKS: 1.Igneous – formed from fire (magma, lava) 2.Metamorphic – changed in form WITHOUT MELTING 3.Sedimentary – made of sediments that are cemented together Geology Kitchen
