Big Picture Thinking ❖ No way to “teach to the test” ❖ Based on overall learning, grades K-9 (not just what you learned in unit) ❖ Charts progress over time (years) ❖ You will be looking at the same exact scale (unlike CST) ❖ Assessment OF Learning vs. Assessment FOR Learning (autopsy vs. MRI)

Nuts & Bolts ❖A❖A computerized assessment (multiple choice format) ❖4❖42 -64 questions per test. ❖U❖Untimed: Approximately 50 minutes per test. ❖G❖Given 3 times a year (Fall, Winter, Spring) ❖T❖Takes place of District Benchmarks ❖T❖Test will adjust in difficulty based on student answers (optimal test: 50% of questions correct; 50% incorrect) ❖A❖Aligned to State Standards ❖A❖Accurately predicts CST results

Student Reminders 1) Purpose/importance of NWEA MAP testing. 2) Test-taking strategies/road to college. 3) Rest, food, & bathroom. 4) Supplies (SSR book; goal sheet for Winter & Spring). 5) Respect the lab. 6) Backpacks. 7) After test (keep student screen open, write score, & read). 8) Prepare the room for the next class (chair & belongings). Math Sample A calculator will pop up for conceptual questions where the focus is not on computation. Students do not have to use it. If a calculator does not pop up, they may not use another calculator.
