4 9th Meeting of the Steering Committee 4 / 26 Lisbon, 10 November 2009 1st phase (Coordination Action): Duration: 2005-2009 Budget: ≈ 3 MEuros Consortium (2009): 19 Partners + 14 Observers European Network of RTD funding and managing organisations, supported by the EC, with the goal of coordinating national/regional programmes on Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation CIRCLE ERA-Net

5 9th Meeting of the Steering Committee 5 / 26 Lisbon, 10 November 2009 CIRCLE CA key results Establishing the network: cooperation between national research agencies and programmes; Setting up of a variable group approach (e.g. Mediterranean, CEES, Mountains, Nordic); Launching of 3 calls (closed: MEDiterranean, NORdic; open: MOUNTains) for transnational collaborative research projects; Funding of 11 research projects and 48 national research teams with a total combined call budget of 4.7Million EUR (against 2.7 Million EUR of coordination budget); Organising joint activities (e.g. workshops, conferences) and support of review studies (e.g. PEER comparison of National Adaptation Strategies).

9 9th Meeting of the Steering Committee 9 / 26 Lisbon, 10 November 2009  Promote the alignment of national and sub-national CCIAV research agendas in relevant common strategic areas  Design and Fund joint initiatives and joint calls for research projects that can support Europe’s evolving CCIAV activities and strategies  Share knowledge and support the EC and partners in their efforts to adopt appropriate adaptation strategies, action plans and measures  Optimise investments on CCIAV research, increase the effectiveness and efficiency of research funding and maximise the relevance of the research outcomes in addressing current and future European climate policy needs Main Objectives:
