2 Multiple Intelligences Howard Gardner In relation with approaches used to solve problems.

3 What is Multiple Intelligences? Conceived by Howard Gardner. Multiple Intelligences are eight different ways to demonstrate intellectual ability.

4 Linguistic Ability to use words and language. Highly developed in auditory skills. Think in words rather than pictures, use language to express and understand meanings. Learnt by: reading, writing, listening, debating.

5 Musical Ability to recognize, create, and produce music. Think in sounds, rhythms, melodies, rhymes. Immediate respond to music. Learnt by: humming, singing, music listening.

6 Visual / Spatial Ability to perceive the visual. Tend to think in pictures and able to create clear mental images to retain information. Able to think in both 2D and 3D. Learnt by: making visual representation, working with charts, graphs, diagrams. Imagining and visualizing.

7 Logical - Mathematical Ability to use reason, logic, and numbers. Conceptualize things logically and numerical patterns making connection between pieces of information. Involves inductive and deductive reasoning. Learnt by: analyzing patterns and relation, experimenting, and inquiring.

8 Bodily Kinesthetic Ability to control body movements and handle objects skillfully. Expressing through movement. Good balance of hand and eye coordination. Learnt by: touching, moving, processing information through physical sensation.

9 Interpersonal Ability to relate and understand others. Mostly, trying to see things from other people’s point of view in order to know what they think and feel. Encourage co-operation. Learnt by: sharing with others, working in team, interviewing other people.

10 Intrapersonal Ability to self-reflect and aware of one’s inner state of being. Trying to understand their inner feelings, dreams, strength, and weaknesses. Learnt by: working alone, introspection, self-evaluation.

11 Naturalist Ability to understand natural world: plants, animals. Scientific studies. Sensitive to classification of species, etc. Good interaction with living creatures. Learnt by: outdoor study, grouping and connecting subjects with natural objects.

14 Diverging and Converging as a basic thinking process method.

15 What do you get from the exercise?

16 Divergent Thinking Rules Defer / suspend judgment. Build on others ideas. Strive for quantity. Go for unusual / wild ideas.

17 Group Activity 2 or 3 students in a group.

18 In 1 minute, find at least 15 ideas (the more the better) can you think of for the use of a pencil.

19 Convergent Thinking Rules Be affirmative (agreement by request) Be deliberate Check objectives Improve ideas (how to make it applicable?) Consider novelty

20 How to asses your ideas? Fluent (number of ideas) Flexible (number of categories) Original (unusual) Elaborate (how far it is developed?)
