Density Sink or Float?
2
Some objects float, or stay on top of a liquid. Others sink, or drop to the bottom of a liquid. Some objects float, or stay on top of a liquid. Others sink, or drop to the bottom of a liquid.

Sink or Float! Observation: Some objects sink, others float. Observation: Some objects sink, others float. Hypothesis: Objects with greater mass in a smaller amount of space will sink. Hypothesis: Objects with greater mass in a smaller amount of space will sink. OR… Objects with greater density will sink.

What is Density? Density is a property of matter that is unique to each substance. Density is a property of matter that is unique to each substance. Density is how much stuff there is in some amount of space Density is how much stuff there is in some amount of space It’s typically measured as how much mass there is in so much space. It’s typically measured as how much mass there is in so much space. Let’s say that we had two balls, a basketball and a bowling ball, and both are the same size. Since the bowling ball is heavier than the basketball, you know that it has to be more dense, since they both take up the same amount of space overall. Calculating Density Density = Mass/ Volume, Density = Mass/ Volume, Units Units g/ml -liquid g/ml -liquid g/cm 3- solid g/cm 3- solid

Experiment #3 Conclusion After calculating the densities of all 4 objects that were used in our experiment, was our hypothesis correct? After calculating the densities of all 4 objects that were used in our experiment, was our hypothesis correct? Hypothesis: Objects with greater density will sink.
