3 How does shape contribute to dance? \Define shape Warm-up Plie, Tendue, Positions of the feet and arms Types of shapes Create a shape study: In pairs create an 8 move dance using shapes and transitions. A1 B2 A3 B4 A5 B6 accumulate your movement so that you don’t forget what you are doing. We will show these at the end of class.

5 How can you create a short dance phrase using shapes? Using the idea of shapes in small groups create a short dance phrase. The phrase should be at least 4 counts of 8 and not have any street dance or movements with names. Remember transitions get you from one shape to the next. Try not to have gender specific movements. Your dance should be in unison for two counts of 8 then it can vary. Move big with control and confidence. Positive and Negative shape in space

7 How can focus and control play a role in movement? Define: focus Define: control Using focus and control learn basic dance warm-up (there are three reasons to warm-up 1. To focus the Mind 2. To Heat up the body 3. To stretch and strength the body) In class we all try to move as one. Look like the leader. Plie, Tendu, battement, new center combo, using direct and indirect focus Direct Focus and Indirect focus (center combo) Spotting using direct focus ball change pirouette Across the floor chase, battement Using focus and control mirror dance. (improvisation) Define focus and control with movement. When can these concepts be used in everyday life? How can you apply these ideas to your life and to dance? 9 What is the role of energy in dance? Review focus and control Define energy: your power Warm-up using different energy Feel your energy shake test, extend and increase tension, start with tension and decrease compare and contrast how it felt. How you use your energy effects the special quality of motion in dance Physical energy, emotional energy, mental energy Improvisation Jell-O, Kool-Aid, Ice Phrase using energy correctly, variations with a lot, a little, sometimes Travel on different pathways: curved, straight, diagonal, zig zag Short answer: What was your favorite way of moving? Why do you think you like to move that way? Does it say anything about your personality? What is the role of energy in dance?
