AREA OF A CIRCLE Learning Target 4: I can solve problems using area and circumference of a circle.
2
AREA= AMOUNT OF SPACE INSIDE A 2D SHAPE TO FIND THE AREA OF A CIRCLE USE THIS FORMULA: AREA = π * Radius 2 (Area = 3.14 times Radius squared)
3
Example 1 Jaleesa is buying a round backyard pool. The distance around the edge of the pool is 38 feet. Let π = 3.14. Find the area that the pool will cover. We need to use Area = π * Radius 2 but first we have to find out the Radius. Step 1: We know Circumference = π * Diameter. Which can also be written as Circumference = π * 2 * Radius. So 38 ft = 3.14 * 2 * Radius (So we multiply 3.14 and 2 which equals 6.28) 38 ft = 6.28 * Radius (Since 6.28 is multiplying by the Radius we need to divide by 6.28) 6.28 6.28 6.05 = Radius Step 2: Now we can calculate the Area. Area= 3.14 * 6.05 2 Area= 3.14* 36.6 Area= 114.9 ft 2
