Pneumatic Anti-Shock Garment u PASG u Medical Anti-Shock Trousers u Military Anti-Shock Trousers u MAST

Action Applies circumferential pneumatic counterpressure to abdomen, lower extremities

Therapeutic Effects u Controls external bleeding by direct compression u Controls internal bleeding under trousers by: –reduction of blood flow –compression of vessels

Therapeutic Effects u Stabilizes fractures –Pelvis –Femurs

Therapeutic Effects u Increases resistance to blood flow in lower body u Shunts blood to: –Heart –Lungs –Brain u Produces increased blood flow to critical organs

Indications u BP below 80 systolic due to hypovolemia u Extensive soft tissue trauma to or bleeding from abdomen or lower extremities with hypovolemic shock u Pelvic/femur fractures with hypovolemic shock

Absolute Contraindications Pulmonary Edema Diaphragmatic Hernia

Relative Contraindications u Bleeding above level of suit u Head trauma u Thoracic trauma u Advanced pregnancy (legs only) u Abdominal evisceration/impaled object (legs only) u Short transport times (<30 minutes)

Removal u At hospital under supervision of physician who understands device u IVs established u Surgical team ready u Abdomen then one leg at a time SLOWLY

Removal u Deflation should take 20 - 60 minutes u If BP drops 4-6 mmHg, discontinue deflation, infuse fluid u If BP drops over 10mmHg, re-inflate u Unstable patient may need to go to OR with MAST in place

Never deflate entire suit at once
