Current Orthopaedic Unit Challenges Future plan to change to an Acute Hip Fracture ward – staff concerns OT service, one OT, in Saturday only, covering elective enhanced recovery and trauma PT service, one physiotherapist, in Saturday and Sunday covering elective enhanced recovery and trauma potential discharges. Hip # can not be a priority at present. (work load last Saturday 17 elective patients, 6 trauma) Friday, Saturday Hip # have to wait until Monday for initial physiotherapy assessment

Facilities Physiotherapy gym between the trauma wards Close to bed rehab space on same level Gym OT assessment suite

Developments – Hip # project Acute Hip # Ward by end of year 0.6 WTE physiotherapist added to the team who will contribute to the PT weekend rota 0.8 WTE × 2 generic therapy support workers band 4 Increased OT and PT input at the weekends for earlier assessment, mobility, PADL etc. Increased OT and PT input Monday to Friday More frequent and longer rehab time for each patient More staff to facilitate use of gyms Aim - improved outcomes and service
