“reading between the lines”

 All the time!  1 of first types of learning!  Mimic  Infer  Logical explanation based on:  Observation  Prior Knowledge

Experiment 1  MV: amount of light  RV: size of dots  CV: temperature and moisture kept the same  Question: How does the amount of light effect the size of the dots?  Hypothesis: If the amount of light is decreased, then the size of the dots will increase, because the dots do not go through photosynthesis  ECS: in light  ES: in dark Experiment 2  MV: Air  RV: amount of dots  CV: Food and water provided  Question: How does the air effect the amount of dots?  Hypothesis: If the air is decreased, then the amount of dots will decrease, because the dots need air to reproduce.  ECS: open at top  ES: Sealed

Experiment 3  MV: air amount  RV: number of leaves  CV: amount of water, same type of plant  Question: How does the air effect the amount of leaves on a plant?  Hypothesis: If the air is decreased, then the number of leaves would decrease because the leaves need air to stay connected to the plant.  ECS: open jar  ES: sealed jar Experiment 4  MV:??  RV:??  CV??  THINK: Is there a ECS and ES? How can we figure it out?  We know it is something to do with the plant and animal, but details?  Can’t do!

 How close was Ms. P?  Does it matter, really?  Inferring  Observation  Prior Knowledge  Not really right or wrong  as long as based on observation  So, “air” vs. “something in the air” vs. “Oxygen”  DETAILED!
