A LL ABOUT A LL -R EGION A UDITIONS ! TOOLS TO GUIDE YOU THROUGH A SUCCESSFUL AUDITION!

P HASE 1 When:Friday, November 13 th – we will depart shortly after school is out Where:Kennemer Middle School in Duncanville Who:Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Percussion, POTENTIALLY Saxophone (we will not know until after October 30 th ) The top third from each room will advance to Phase 2 on Saturday

P HASE 2 When:Saturday, November 14 th – we will depart between 9 am – 10 am Where:Kennemer Middle School in Duncanville Who:Anyone who advanced from Phase 1 on Friday All other instruments that did not audition Friday

W HAT HAPPENS WHEN WE ARRIVE ? When we arrive, you will check in with the monitor at your assigned room Room assignments will be posted throughout the school and on room doors You will receive your AUDITION LETTER from the monitor at this time YOU MUST REMEMBER YOUR LETTER!!! After you have checked in: Return to the cafeteria (warning: it is LOUD) Warm-up – be smart about how warm-up! Do not play too much. Return to assigned room at designated time Your room monitor will let you know the time when you check in The scale requirements and “cuts” will be given to you at this time

A UDITION R OOM : Most are in regular classrooms Your room will be mostly full of all other people auditioning on your instrument You will play in front of them (not facing them) These are BLIND AUDITIONS Judges are seated behind partition YOU MUST STAY IN THE ROOM No cell phones, iPads, iPods, Apple Watches, Kindles, etc. Bring: a SMALL bag with a book, something to draw on, homework, etc.

P ROCEDURES : You will perform in 3 rounds Round 1: The 2 scales chosen by the judges and your chromatic scale Round 2: Cut of Etude 1 Round 3: Cut of Etude 2 You will want to bring a pencil to mark the cuts on your music! MAKE SURE YOUR MEASURES ARE NUMBERED!!!!!!!!!!!! Dealing with NERVES!!!

P ROCEDURES P ART 2: You MUST remain in the room for the entirety of the audition process… until EVERYONE in your room has finished Judges will give you a break half way through No food may be taken into the room – only water You may buy water from the concession area, but do not buy food until you are done auditioning! If you must leave to go to the restroom, wait until one of the 30 second warm-up periods to leave and wait for the next one to return

S CORING : Major Scales: 15 points each Chromatic Scale: 20 points Etude 1: 100 points Etude 2: 100 points

R ESULTS : Results will be posted in the cafeteria Phase 1: Your result sheet will designate whether or not you have advanced to Phase 2. If you advance to Phase 2, you must attend Phase 2 auditions on Saturday. Phase 2: Results will be posted in chair order. Band placements are also designated on these result sheets. Results are not OFFICIAL until 30 minutes after they have been posted Make sure you wait!!!

All-Region Clinic & Concert: When: December 4 th & 5 th Where: Duncanville High School What: Friday, December 4 th – rehearsals begin around 6 pm Saturday, December 5 th – rehearsals begin around 9 am lunch break around 12 pm dinner break around 4:00 pm concerts begin around 5:30 – 6:00 pm
