55 Cutting Tool Information Standard ISO13399 – For Digital Communication We all share the same definition of a parameter Definition: ”Maximum engagement of the cutting edge or edges with the workpiece measured perpendicular to the feed motion.” 15 mm

66 Cutting Tool Information Standard ISO13399 – What Can Be Communicated? Tool item information –Classification –Parameter values Tool assembly –Assembly instructions for tool room –Tool information used by CAM/CNC References to external documents –3D model of single tool or complete tool assembly Multi-function –”Multiple tools” on one body Nominal and physical tool –Nominal tool information to CAM and tool room –Physical tool information between tool room and CNC mill turn

77 Cutting Tool Information Standard ISO13399 – Basics Information Model from STEP (ISO10303-214) –Consists of selected parts from “AP214” (automotive) –Powerful model to describe a cutting tool. E.g. A tool assembly may include its components as well as the resulting 3D model. Cutting Tool Vocabulary in P-Lib dictionary file (ISO13584) –Allows for quicker updates to meet requirements from the industry File Format from STEP (ISO10303-21) –Same proven file format, “part21”, which is used for 3D models
