HUMANIST CONGRESS Vienna June 2014 Caveat When you analyse what influences interaction (e.g. ITS) risk that you miss important variables Buthe there is not ONE thing that influences – there is an orchestra of persons & things Usually „you only find those things that you are looking for“ Actor Network Theory
3
HUMANIST CONGRESS Vienna June 2014 Actor-Network-Theory ANT (Michel Callon & Bruno Latour) Interaction is a „product“ of the interplay between persons and other influencing things Effects of persons and things vary as varies their meaning in different situations and contexts and for different persons and interactions The relationship among them varies, as well
4
HUMANIST CONGRESS Vienna June 2014 For practical work 1)Take a neutral position as researcher 2)No a-priori definition of what is considered in the analysis – the influence of/the reaction to any thing develops (e.g. keeping rules) For the analysis: in a first step compile a list of factors which influence interaction This list is not a product but a process – we keep learning what actors (= persons & things) do in different situations and contexts
5
HUMANIST CONGRESS Vienna June 2014 So... Whenever you hear anything at this congress (or at other occasions) concerning what could contribute to interaction write it down BUT Work on with your theories concerning who or what could have an effect: „You only find what you are looking for“ Then: Think what interactions should look like Then: What methods are needed for analysis
