2. The Nature of Light

3.  Light is the only form of energy that can travel like a wave through empty space and some materials.  It behaves like a special wave called an electromagnetic wave.  Electromagnetic waves are similar to water waves. Both types of waves use energy movement from one point to another.  A wavelength is the distance from one crest to the next.

4.  Electromagnetic waves are invisible and can travel through a vacuum. (They don’t need particles in order to travel).  They travel through space (a vacuum) at the speed of light (3.0 x 10 8 m/s)  Electromagnetic waves are more complicated than water waves because they involve electric and magnetic fields.

6. Electromagnetic Spectrum  A diagram that shows the range of electromagnetic waves in order of wavelength.  Colours of light are just different wavelengths of light.  Red has the longest visible wavelength (700nm) and violet has the shortest visible wavelength (400 nm)
