The Nature of Light
3
Light is the only form of energy that can travel like a wave through empty space and some materials. It behaves like a special wave called an electromagnetic wave. Electromagnetic waves are similar to water waves. Both types of waves use energy movement from one point to another. A wavelength is the distance from one crest to the next.
4
Electromagnetic waves are invisible and can travel through a vacuum. (They don’t need particles in order to travel). They travel through space (a vacuum) at the speed of light (3.0 x 10 8 m/s) Electromagnetic waves are more complicated than water waves because they involve electric and magnetic fields.

Water wave vs Electromagnetic wave
6
Electromagnetic Spectrum A diagram that shows the range of electromagnetic waves in order of wavelength. Colours of light are just different wavelengths of light. Red has the longest visible wavelength (700nm) and violet has the shortest visible wavelength (400 nm)
