Human Body and Water The human body is two-thirds water. Water is an essential nutrient that is involved in every function of the body.

Functions of Water Water helps transport nutrients and waste products in and out of cells.

Functions of Water Water is necessary for all digestive, absorption, circulatory, and excretory functions

RDI It is recommended that you drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day.

Best Times to Drink Water Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the body: – 2 glasses of water after waking up - helps activate internal organs – 1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion – 1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure – 1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack. Water at bed time will also help prevent night time leg cramps

Can you drink too much water? Yes. Drinking too much water can lead to a condition known as water intoxication and to a related problem resulting from the dilution of sodium in the body, hyponatremia.

Symptoms of Dehydration These mild dehydration symptoms are often : Thirst Loss of Appetite Dry Skin Skin Flushing Dark Coloured Urine Dry Mouth Fatigue or Weakness Chills Head Rushes

Serious Symptoms of Dehydration Increased heart rate Increased respiration Decreased sweating Decreased urination Increased body temperature Extreme fatigue Muscle cramps Headaches Nausea Tingling of the limbs Unconsciousness

Types of Water: Mineral Water Each bottler has different water because the water picks up minerals and salts from surrounding rock layers as it moves to the surface. This water may taste sour, salty, alkaline or have other flavors.
