One Word of Truth As we read the article, annotate for: Thesis Instances in which the power of literature is mentioned Revisit your quickwrite Add to your quickwrite, using the ideas in the article to further support your ideas.

Guernica by Pablo Picasso As we view the art piece, fill in the OPTIC chart on page 265.

Guernica Read the article about Guernica on pages 267- 268. Review your OPTIC chart and add details and analysis. The article should help you deepen your analysis.

Write an interpretation of Guernica and its persuasive properties. You can rely on historical context or only on the image itself. Consider ethos, pathos, and logos when analyzing the persuasive properties. Write a short essay reflecting on the issues discussed today. Consider the genres discussed this activity. How does each protest injustice? Which is the most persuasive and why? (What appeals does the author/artist use?)
