Learning Objectives: To know how China is linked with the rest of the World To understand that closer relationships with other countries will aid China’s development

Look at this picture carefully. What is it? When was it built? How long is it? Why was it built?

Several walls were built between the fifth century BC and the sixteenth century AD. The present wall was built during the Ming Dynasty in the sixteenth century. The wall is 6400 km long, making it the world’s longest man-made structure. It is also the largest manmade structure by surface area and mass. It was built to protect the northern border of the Chinese Empire from invasion.

Most of China’s history was made when it was cut off from the rest of the World.

Your task: Read about China’s links with the rest of the World from your sheet. Draw lines between the China and the countries it is linked with Write a brief explanation along the line to show the link

Looking at your map carefully… Which country has the most links with China? Why do they have so many links? How might patterns change in the future?

Write on a post-it note 3 ways in which you are linked to China, e.g. I travelled there…. I like Chinese food…. My clothes are made there…..
