2. What is an Enigma Machine?
Enigma is actually a brand of cipher machines, not a single machine
Most were created before and during WWll.
They were used to send encrypted messages among Hitler’s army.

3. Beginnings
The first Enigma machine was invented and patented by Arthur Sherbius

4. How were they used?
The Germans used manuals to set the machine’s parameters for each day so that they could decode the messages they received.

5. Different Types
There are many types of enigma machines, including the Enigma l, which was the basic design for German Army enigmas. This had three moving wheels, a reflector board and a plugboard.
Later more features were added to the machine including light bulbs and printers like that of the Enigma A and C.

6. How was it cracked? Bombe Machine
In 1928, the Polish intercepted an enigma machine that was being sent to a german Embassy in Warsaw.
Pozman University students cracked it.
They decrypted the German enigma signals December 31, 1932.
The Bombe (electromechanical programmable machine) was used to decrypt the German messages.
This information was sent to the French and British July of 1939.
