Diversity ► Refers to the great variety of people and their backgrounds, experiences, opinions, religions, ages, talents and abilities.

Prejudices ► Negative biases or feelings, towards people of a particular ethnicity or culture and are not based on fact.

Stereotype ► Assumption that all members of a group fit the same pattern.

Cultural Tendencies ► Common beliefs, such as religion or a common way of acting.

The Interview At some point in your career you’ll have to interview for a job or promotion. What about the questions? What can be asked and what can not be asked in order to avoid discrimination?

Questions that can not be asked ► Race ► Ethnic background ► Country of origin ► Former or maiden name ► Parents’ names ► Languages other than English (unless a second language is required) (unless a second language is required) ► Prior arrests – convictions can be asked about ► Marital status ► Children or plans to have children, child care ► Spouse information ► Religion ► Credit history or personal finances ► Disabilities, unless directly related to the job ► Height, weight, hair color, etc…
