Definitions: ■ Absolute magnitude: measure of light tat a star actually gives off ■ Apparent magnitude: measure of light that the Earth receives form a star. A star may be dim but appear to be bright on Earth. This can happen to due to its distance form the Earth. ■ Constellations: groups of stars which appear to have patterns, many have been named after animals and characters form mythology. ■ Circumpolar constellations: a group of constellations which appear to rotate around Polaris in the northern skies. This is caused by the rotation of the Earth. They appear to rotate each day and travel across the skies during the year due the Earth revolving around the Sun. These constellations are visible all year long.
