WRITING A COLOR-CODED PARAGRAPH Purpose: Write a paragraph that includes a topic sentence, three supporting sentences, and a closing.

TOPIC SENTENCE 1. What the paragraph is about; the topic of the paragraph. 2. Clearly link the topic of the paragraph to the thesis statement. 3. Make a smooth transition between the previous paragraph and the present paragraph.

COLOR-CODED PARAGRAPH THINK OF A TRAFFIC LIGHT GREEN = GO (Beginning) –Topic sentence YELLOW = SLOW (Middle) –Supporting sentences RED = STOP (End) –Closing sentence

Example 1 Fall is my favorite time of year. The fall air is crisp and cool and makes me feel alive. Pumpkin flavored foods are in the stores, and even pumpkins decorate doorsteps up and down my street. I love the smell of fallen leaves fills the air. These are some reasons why I like Fall so much.

Example 2 When I grow up, I want to be an astronaut. Astronauts explore places where people have never been before. They make new discoveries about our solar system. Some astronauts even walk in space. I think being an astronaut would be fun and challenging work.

Example 3 First, an Iphone 6 is a great incentive for getting good grades is kids love to text and talk. Kids use Social web sites like Facebook, FaceTime, and Instragram to keep in touch with their friends. With an Iphone, you can keep in touch with family and friends. You can easily text or talk to your family even if they live in another country. Kids would love to earn a new Iphone so they could keep in touch with family and friends.
