Delay Not! Delay Not CW #337 Verses 1-5 Text: Thomas Hastings, 1784-1872 Setting: MALDWYN Tune: Welsh melody, 17th cent.

Verse 1: Delay not! O sinner, draw near! The waters of life are now flowing for you. No price is demanded; the Savior is here. Redemption is purchased; God's promise is true.

Verse 2: Delay not! O sinner, to come, For mercy still lingers and calls you today. Its voice is not heard in the vale of the tomb; Its message, unheeded, will soon pass away.

Verse 3: Delay not! The Spirit of grace, Long grieved and resisted, may take his sad flight And leave you in darkness to finish your race, To sink in the gloom of eternity's night.

Verse 4: Delay not! The hour is at hand; The earth will dissolve, and the heavens will fade. The dead, small and great, in the Judgment must stand-- What pow'r, then, O sinner, can lend you its aid?

Verse 5: Delay not! Why longer abuse The love and compassion of Jesus, your God? A fountain is opened--how can you refuse? Come, wash and be cleansed in his pardoning blood.

Opening Verses Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit All (Sung): Amen.

Confession of Sin All: But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.

All: You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence. Pastor: You turn mortals back to dust. You sweep them away in the sleep of death. All: The length of our days is seventy years – or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow.

Pastor: Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. All: Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. In every age, O Lord, you have been our refuge.

Children’s Message

Great God, What Do I See and Hear CW # 208 1-4 Text: Psalms and Hymns, Sheffield, 1802 (st. 1) William B. Collyer, 1782-1854 (st. 2-4) Setting: ES IST GEWISSLICH Tune: Joseph Klug, Geistliche Lieder auffs new gebessert, Wittenberg, 1535

Verse 1: Great God, what do I see and hear? The end of things created; The judge of mankind shall appear On clouds of glory seated. The trumpet sound; the graves restore The dead which they contained before; Prepare, my soul, to meet him!

Verse 2: The dead in Christ shall first arise At that last trumpet's sounding, Caught up to meet him in the skies, With joy their Lord surrounding. No gloomy fear their souls dismay; His presence sheds eternal day On those prepared to meet him.

Verse 3: But sinners filled with guilty fears Behold his wrath prevailing, For they shall rise and find their tears And sighs are unavailing; The day of grace is past and gone; They trembling stand before his throne, All unprepared to meet him.

Verse 4: O Christ, you died, and yet you live; To me account your merit, My pardon seal, my sins forgive, And cleanse me by your Spirit. Beneath your cross I view the day When heav'n and earth shall pass away, And thus prepare to meet you.

The Sacrament Pastor: It is truly good and right that we should at all times and in all places give you thanks, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who preserves his Church to the end of time when he will come again as king to judge all people and take his own to glory. Therefore, with all the saints on earth and hosts of heaven, we praise your holy name and join their glorious song:

Words of Institution Pastor: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night he was betrayed, took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

Words of Institution Pastor: Then he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
