During the last Ice Age, native tribes settled in central Canada in an area known as the Plains…. They originally travelled by foot until the horse was brought by the Spaniards. They did not have permanent shelter. They had to follow herds of Buffalo which were their food source…

The tribes would follow the Buffalo and look for fresh water Plains Indians believed in a great god. They called that god the ‘Wakan Tanka,’ meaning the Great Spirit. They were polytheistic and believed in many gods! They traded beads and other items to tribes for what they needed.

Their shelters were called Tipis. They could be transported quickly if the tribe had to move… Most warfare would occur over hunting grounds… They did not have a written language, but they would communicate their history and stories with beads…
