2 Why a Quick Start Guide? How good is your memory? There are 17 steps to complete! In the correct order

3 1. Ensure PCS900 has valid machine measure-up and AS450 calibration –Have you restored the correct persist file? More important when: –You reinstall equipment –Have multiple machines the display is used on Note: AS450 is the slope sensor under the mast

4 2. Ensure PCS400 is configured correctly E.g. 3D elevation and 3D slope control –Note: this applies to other 2D systems also e.g. MobaMatic Or 3D elevation and 2D height control

5 3. Ensure the 2D cross-slope sensor is calibrated This is the AS200 on the screed Very important for accurate 3D results Must be in 2D slope mode to recalibrate

6 4. Ensure the PCS900/UTS instrument and SCS900 grade check/UTS instrument set- ups have adequate range and line of sight for the desired paving run Has someone stood at each position and looked over the paving run? Will it change with trucks or other paving machinery? Will it change with the time of day?

7 5. If using manual masts, ensure the correct mast extension is entered Are the units correct? Check the scale on the mast with a steel tape –Is it accurate?

8 6. Load the design in PCS900 and optionally select a horizontal alignment Instructions are on the other side of the page

9 7. Establish a connection between PCS900 and the UTS instrument that is responsible for paver control Make sure it is the correct UTS –Check the radio settings match the UTS instrument –Check the MT900 IDs don't conflict with other machines on site

10 8. Establish a connection between the grade check SCS900 system and the UTS instrument responsible for grade checking Move the SCS target and make sure the correct gun follows it

11 9. Enter any horizontal or vertical offsets in PCS900 Be careful! –What design do you have loaded? –Is your offset UP from the base surface? –Or down from the finished surface? –What about differential compaction?

12 10. Ensure the SCS900 setup used for grade checking uses the same design and vertical offset as PCS900 You must be at least as accurate as the machine to be able to check it –Correct Design –Correct Offset –Correct setup and a vertical pole with a flat base

13 11. Prepare screed for paving using normal techniques (for example, 'Pave- by-the-Numbers') Try to get screed as close to grade height as possible

14 12. With screed on starter blocks pull the machine forward until PCS900 obtains the screed orientation (~300-400 mm) –Once the orientation is known, the 'Low Accuracy: Move' message stops –This procedure assumes that the starter blocks get the screed on grade relative to design Not required IF you use the v1.10 Direction key as you back into position

15 13. Bench PCS900 using an external reference such as a UTS rover pole Do NOT use a GPS rover for benching Bench point should be at screed point, as defined by machine measure-up –Tip - If you can, set your screed tips to be the tips of the main screed not the screed extensions –That way you always know where to bench –On a cross slope, this could be a big deal!

16 This step only applies to US style pavers that have depth crank handles 14. Do not adjust the depth crank handles again! If you re-adjust the depth crank handles, rebench PCS900 Note – If there is a large elevation change you may run out of cylinder In this instance, buy back some cylinder by slowly adjusting the depth crank handle until PCS900 adjusts to grade If you have to crank faster than PCS900 can adjust the screed back to grade, crank and wait until the system is on grade again If the 2D system is back on grade and enough cylinder has been gained back, stop the paver and rebench as outlined in step 13. Then complete the steps from step 15

17 15. Begin paving and place the 2D system into Auto Initially, the grade lights on the CB440 may indicate that the 2D system is off grade but the PCS900 AutoAdjust feature quickly adjusts to bring the 2D system on grade

18 16. Check the grade of the laid mat with an SCS900 grade check rover

19 17. If required, increment or decrement the CB440 responsible for 3D elevation to get on-grade –If you followed the steps above, you shouldn't need to do this...AutoAdjust will do it for you Only very small adjustments may be required Be careful not to overreact to grade height changes The screed reacts very slowly to grade changes
