1 Overview of the JRA1 activities at JRC-IRMM F.-J. Hambsch, A. Al-Adili, I. Fabry, A. Plompen, S. Oberstedt, S. Zeynalov IRMM - Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements Geel - Belgium http://irmm.jrc.ec.europa.eu/ http://www.jrc.ec.europa.eu/ NOTES 1. PLACE, DATE AND EVENT NAME 1.1. Access the slide-set place, date and event name text box beneath the JRC logo from the Slide Master. 1.2. Do not change the size nor the position of that text box. 1.3. Replace the mock-up texts for the place (“Place”), the date (“dd Month YYYY”) and the event name (“Event Name”) with your own texts. 1.4. Set it in MetaPlus Book Roman, if you own the typeface. Otherwise, keep the original typeface – Arial. 1.5. Keep the original flush-left justification. 1.6. Keep the original font colour (white). 1.7. Keep the original font body size (7 pt) and the text on one single line. 2. SLIDE NUMBER 2.1. The slide number on the banner’s lower right-hand side is automatically generated. 3. SLIDES 3.1. Duplicate the first slide as needed. 3.2. Do not change the size nor the position of the slide’s text box. 3.3. Try not to place more text on each slide than will fit in the given text box. 3.4. Replace the mock-up heading text (“Joint Research Centre (JRC)”) with your own text heading. 3.5. Set it in Eurostile Bold Extended Two or in Helvetica Rounded Bold Condensed, if you own one of these typefaces. Otherwise, keep the original typeface – Arial. 3.6. Keep the original flush-left justification. 3.7. Keep the original font colour (100c 80m 0y 0k). 3.8. Keep the original font body size (28 pt) and the heading on one single line whenever possible. Reduce the font body size if needed. 3.9. Replace the mock-up text (“The European Commission’s Research-Based Policy Support Organisation)”) with your own text. 3.10. Set it in MetaPlus Book Roman, if you own the typeface. Otherwise, keep the original typeface – Arial. 3.11. Keep the original flush-left justification. 3.12. Keep the original font colour (100c 80m 0y 0k). Use black if you need a second colour. 3.13. Keep the original font body size (22 pt) or reduce it if unavoidable. 3.14. Replace the EU-27 map mock-up illustration with your own illustration(s). 3.13. Try to keep your illustration(s) right- and top- or bottom-aligned with the main text box whenever possible. NOTES 1. 2 2 Achievements Digital signal acquisition software adapted to use heterogeneous digitizers (Acqiris and Spectrum) GENDARC data acquisition and analysis system (both running under LINUX and SUN Solaris) Dedicated software solutions for different experiments Signal processing subroutines written in C++ Application to different Nuclear Physics experiments

3 Screenshot from GELISCOPE data acquisition program

4 TwoCardsDigitizer v 1.0 by Alexandru NEGRET 1. JAVA Graphical User Interface 4 panels starts, stops, exchanges information with the the C++ program 2. C++ program the backbone of the software package 3 running modes Dedicated to GAINS; runs on each computer controlling 4 detectors Based on structures that can be easily re-used

5 GENDARC Look and Feel GENDARC provides numerous additional features: Modern GUI for program control, start, stop, changing display, zooming, etc. for 1D/2D data visualisation Use of NTUPLEs data objects: Complicated n-dimensional analytical cuts possible Raw Data Reduction (factor 2 !) Graphical cuts in 2D – data Tools for fitting functions (polynomials, gauss, landau, etc.) to spectra Publication-quality output in numerous formats (jpg, pdf, eps, ps, gif,..) First successful tests online/offline within our 235 U PFNS experiment

6 GENDARC Attributes: Controlling the program Starting up: New program modules are detected, compiled, linked System Endean checked automatically Setting up & starting Experiment/ DAA (press buttons) Create/edit User DAQ /DAA Program System Configuration By default 1D and 2D histograms defined Starting a DAQ or DAA process: Press button START DAA or DAQ Example here on UNIX SOLARIS 9

7 GUI & Display (Graphics Editor) Switching between 1D/2D view possible 2D histograms: Same features as for 1D exist Useful for publication quality graphs Saving & printing pictures in numerous formats (jpg, pdf, ps, eps, gif..)

8 Comp Analogue versus digital

11 Pile up correction

12 Timing mismatch

13 CFD and Leading Edge techniques

14 Comparison Analogue-Digital

15 Comparison Analogue-Digital

16 Comparison Analogue-Digital

17 Digitizers for capture measurements C6D6 detectors Capture measurements DC282 (10b, 0.5ns/s) SMART option Segmented mode 350 ns deadtime, rearming 5000 cps, full throughput CAEN N1728B (14b, 10ns/s) PH+time-stamp: FPGA Firmware parameter setting No further electronics Cristian Mihailescu

18 PH response and linearity

19 Dead time and time resolution

20 197 Au capture experiment

21 Dead time correction coefficients

22 Ge: Efficiency Higher efficiency in particular at low energies as a result of improved handling of slow pulses. Higher efficiency since we can avoid gamma-flash rejection 803 keV, 206Pb(n,n’)

23 Conclusion DSP algorithm are superior to analogue technique Treatment of data in several ways to find optimum More time consuming Needs more resources in terms of computing power and disk capacity
