M ONDAY, S EPTEMBER 14 - D AY 6.1 Common Core Standards ~ Week 6: Use technology, including the Internet, to produce, publish, and update individual or shared writing products, taking advantage of technology’s capacity to link to other information and to display information flexibly and dynamically. Bell Work (Journal): MEDIA MONDAY (full page) Write about the news, newspaper or online source (Answer: Who, Where, What, Why, How – relate to now) J: p27-43 (6.1 p30 Q1-6; 6.2 p34 Q1-6; 6.3 p43 Q1-7) Seniors: Resume Draft (work places / references) Beowulf page 40 Questions 1-10 due Wed Mrs. Loveridge (sub at the end of 6 th period 9/14 Period 6 only: p32 Q1-11 AND p40 Q1-10 If the sub decides the students are not on task, any other senior class may be assigned the additional questions Tuesday: Resume Lecture (Seniors) Juniors: Article handout (read once Wednesday and continue class interactive reading Thursday)

T UESDAY, S EPTEMBER 15 - D AY 6.2 Common Core Listening & Speaking Standard: Evaluate a speaker’s point of view, reasoning, and use of evidence and rhetoric, assessing the stance, premises, links among ideas, word choice, points of emphasis, and tone used. Bell Work (Journal): Do you think it is appropriate to express anger and negative remarks to your authority figures (parents, teachers, officers, administration)? Explain. Use academic language and clearly state your argument; provide examples / scenarios to support claim. Seniors: Resume Draft (stamped during bell work) Resume Format Lecture; Type by Thurs (9/17) for workshop help from Mrs. Brown (pointers for final resume due 9/25 (7.5) Class: Guest Speaker: Edwin Robinson – VP of Kar Properties Take presentation notes: Life Expectations after high school, job duties; learn from each position you hold and college class you take – it counts! W EDNESDAY, S EPTEMBER 16 - D AY 6.3 Bell Work (SSR): Write a summary of your PRN (Personal Reading Novel) in 7-10 minutes Juniors: p27-43 (6.1 p30 Q1-6; 6.2 p34 Q1-6; 6.3 p43 Q1-7) Juniors: Article handout (read once Wednesday and continue class interactive reading Thursday) Seniors: Beowulf page 40 Questions 1-10 due Period 6 only: p32 Q1-11 AND p40 Q1-10 Mrs. Loveridge (subbed at the end of 6 th period 9/14) If the sub decides the students are not on task, any other senior class may be assigned the additional LIT questions Homework: Type Resume and bring Th 6.4 to workshop Common Core Standards ~ Week 6: RI 1. Conduct short as well as more sustained research projects based on focused questions, demonstrating understanding of the subject under investigation. 8. Gather relevant information from multiple print and digital sources, assess the credibility and accuracy of each source, and integrate the information while avoiding plagiarism. 9. Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research. Bell Schedule #4 (½ Day Schedule) P1: 8:00-8:35 P4 10:35-11:10 P2 8:40-9:15 P5 11:15-11:50 P3 9:20-9:55P6 11:55-12:30 Lunch 10:00-10:30(Mrs. Brown in classroom) Class: Career/College Unit (see Mrs. Brown for Resume notes) Seniors: Typed Resume Workshop (Format & Content) Juniors: 2 nd reading of the article; interactive textual response Backwards Bell Work: At the end of period and as homework, write a “back cover” summary for your fairy tale project (summarize the fairy tale and write the morals of the story) Classwork: Each group creates characters, setting & topic One group note card: Characters & summary (blank side: Student names with class #); if you have already chosen the morals and appeals – write the details

F RIDAY, S EPTEMBER 18 - D AY 6.5 Common Core Standards: Text Types and Purposes 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9 2. Write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content. 3. Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, well-chosen details, and well-structured event sequences. Production and Distribution of Writing 4. Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. 5. Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach. 6. Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing and to interact and collaborate with others. Research to Build and Present Knowledge 9. Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research. Range of Writing 10. Write routinely over extended time frames (time for research, reflection, and revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two) for a range of tasks, purposes, and audiences. Bell Work (Journal): Objectively write a summary of your experience in this class. What is clear? What is confusing? Where do you turn in your assignments? How do you receive your work when it is graded? What objectives have been clearly stated expectations for classwork and homework? What is different about this class? What is the same as other teachers or classes? What will help you succeed? Provide specific examples of a solution to problems or helpful hints here. F AIRY T ALE P ROJECT : WRITTEN DUE O CT 1 (C ODE 8.4) S CRIPT /S TORY PERFORMANCE P RESENTATION W EEK 9 Individual: 1500 words / Group: 2000-4000 words Diorama (one scene from fairy tale) for project Due Oct 5 (9.1) Focus on Hero/Heroine and the moral of the story Juniors: one appeal (ethos/logos/pathos) in moral Seniors: all 3 appeals must be in the moral Characters must be developed (and clearly created) Group members are responsible for dividing the responsibilities of script/story with fair & equal parts Setting details: Where & when is this taking place? Who are the characters? Describe the relationships. What is the moral? How does the moral connect to the appeals? What will the reader learn (lesson)? What is the conflict? How does the hero or heroine “save” the situation or what is the rising action of tale? Clear solution / resolution Juniors: 7 literary terms; Seniors: 10 literary terms - Highlight or underline the literary terms and label in the script
