The history of Presidential powers is one of steady, if uneven, growth. About 1/3 have enlarged its powers Much of the expansion occurred during wartime or national crisis

The first modern Presidency occurred under Franklin D. Roosevelt. He used the institutions inherent and enumerated powers to their fullest impact. New Deal Agenda; some still law today (Social Security, minimum wage, etc) Influence Legislative Process Relationship with public Growth of federal government

While the formal powers of the President haven’t changed, the influence of modern presidents if considerably greater today than it ever has been.
