What is the Language Toolbox? Basic idea after previous teacher workshop: –Set of validated language learning instruments and resources with which students can work independently in the institutional context –To be used during courses and after courses have been completed –Re-usable in different course contexts –Adaptable to specific courses (disabling and enabling of tools as needed) –Exchangeable between institutions –Integrated in Blackboard
3
Current status Collaboration: –Language Centre and ICTOL –Separate development UVT –Share ideas with others Point of departure: –Focus on Dialang –Link with I&EB course and materials –No integration of other INTUIT tools yet Completed: –Template for Dialang (Learning Unit) –General outline for the Tool Box To do: –Re-organize current content –Add more tools –Add teacher instructions –Re-use in different contexts

Further ideas Online support –Use communication tools for guiding students, also outside course contexts Different level of implementation –Add Tool Box to Community/Organization level in Blackboard Adaptive release –Use adaptive release to make tools available for certain groups, at certain times or after students have met certain conditions Blackboard Content System –Use BBCS to maintain contents across a number of courses –Use BBCS Portfolio system for student portfolios
