Advances in Cloud Computing CIS6930/CIS4930
Spring, 2016 Ye Xia (Pronounced as “Yeh Siah”)
2
Course Overview Examine recent research topics on cloud computing and data center management. Conducted in research seminar style. Students will form research groups.
3
Course Overview Each group will identify and survey a major research topic on cloud computing and give presentations on what they have learned. Main goal: Each group will develop a research project with original ideas, work on the ideas and write a paper with publishable quality.
4
Benefits Learn several advanced topics in cloud computing research and practice. Learn how to approach a new subject, innovate and work toward original results.
5
Requirements Project/Paper – 60% Presentation – 30%
Attendance and class participation – 10% No homework; no exams.
6
Main Outcome: Project/Paper
Throughout the semester, students will work toward a course project. It should be research-oriented and contain original ideas on a chosen topic in cloud computing. Deliverable: Each student group will turn in a paper of publishable quality, 6-8 page long in the IEEE conference format.
7
Project/Paper I will give a list of suggested topics.
Students are also welcome to choose their own projects. Each research group will have three students. More details will be announced later
8
Presentations Initially, students sign up to present papers.
Each presentation is 50-minute long. Each presentation should cover one paper.
9
Presentations Ideally,
Every week, one research group will make presentations on the group's chosen research topic. The content should be to explain two to four papers in the project area.
10
Presentations The members of the group will take turn to give 50-minute long presentations. While one member is in charge of one 50-minute long presentation, other members should give feedback prior to the presentation.
11
Late Policies Project paper is due on April 20th (last day of classes). No late project please.
