Well known desktop PC softwares are Windows OS or Microsoft Office. They are called proprietary software, which software vendors define copy licenses and charges fees by themselves. Equivalents of FOSS are Linux or OpenOffice. FOSS Windows XP Internet Explorer Outlook Express MS Office Windows Server IIS WebLogic --- Exchange Server SQL Server VB /.NET... 3 Free/Open Source Software ( FOSS ) Characteristics Free No Issue Open to Public Free to Change Developed Competition Creative FOSS Majority in Web Server FOSS is generally free of charge, free to copy and has no pirated software issue. In Asia/World, FOSS comes before any proprietary software on localization. Government often pushes FOSS not to allow monopoly. On the other hand, FOSS has the majority in some software application areas such as web server. Training/Learning Need Assessment Before conducting any training on Open source applications, following are procedures that can be used as guidelines. 1) Conduct the survey on what is the priority skill/ generic skills to be put in the curriculum content. 2) Listing down the skills and choose the most important skill and prepare curriculum outline. 3) Prepare training material/resources based on the curriculum outline 4) Review the curriculum and modify the content outline based on the trainees feedback.

10 Awareness To Promote public awareness on the existence of Open Source application several strategies can be done following such as Workshop Seminar Campaign Showcase, roadshow and Demos Advertising through various media, such as printing media mand electronic media

11 II. DISTRIBUTION Pre-install new PC of FOSS applications directly and through partners Setup FOSS Research and Support Center Installation campaign all over the country. Retraining of Trainers to Linux Desktop. Upgrade of certification system to include Linux Khmer desktop. Training for universities and private industry.

12 Networking and Partnership (Human networking) To promote networking and partnership it can be done through different method, following are examples of the strategy and methods. Internet Café - Internet cafe can be used as a place to promote Open Source application through, online chat, forum and discussion. Training Provider (universities, Institutes, Colleges, Training Centers) PC and Software Vendors - Vendors can provide option on Operating System installation and can educate their client on the advantages of using Open Source Operating System. SME Regional Teacher Training Center Teacher Training Center Regional Technical Training Center Provincial Training Center

13 TRAINING (multiplier strategy) Note : all training will be adapting multiplier effect strategy, the procedures are; First training, FOSS Group conduct training, FOSS Group provide all curriculum, training material, handout, excercise paper etc Second training, FOSS Group conduct training our partner become FOSS Group's assistant Third Training our partner conduct training and FOSS Group provide their assistant to ensure that our partner feel more confidential Forth, fifth so on FOSS Group provide support

14 Certification and Training 1) Master Trainer –Current trainer, FOSS Group conduct training for conduct training in FOSS Desktop 2) Trainer –Select the good trainee who willing to conduct training to others, FOSS Group will conduct training for them on Master Trainer programme. 3) Power End User - Skillfull end user who can provide extra support such as preparing training/tutorial materials. –Training for free and free material, the only conduction is to conduct training and support other and we call them again for the other training for the trainer program
