The refined curriculum overview Enhanced coverage of Fiction, Non-Fiction and Poetry units (3) ▫ Fiction (15 weeks) ▫ Non-Fiction (12 weeks) ▫ Poetry (3 weeks) This will ensure clearer opportunities for a broad and balanced curriculum Range of text types more progressive throughout KS1 and KS2 P: drive 2013-2014/Literacy Planning the curriculum at WIS/Objectives for Year Group units These will be used to inform your planning and ensure correct coverage of skills

Progression in text types Sections 4, 5 and 6Links to BIG Write Narrative Poetry Non-Fiction: ▫ Explanation (Y1, Y4) ▫ Discussion texts/balanced arguments (Y5, Y6) ▫ Persuasion (Y3, Y5) ▫ Non-chronological (Y2, Y3) ▫ Recount (Y1, Y3, Y4, Y5, Y6) ▫ Instructions (Y1, Y2, Y5) ▫ Information (Y2, Y3, Y4) Children should not be writing text types that they have not had previous teaching experience. BIG Write is an excellent opportunity to assess the children’s ability to apply the text skills to a range of contexts. Are our expectations high enough?

Planning the updated curriculum Section 7 P: drive 2013-2014/Literacy Planning the curriculum at WIS/Planning format Use of the unit objectives Include progression in text type expectations ALL (Year below) MOST (Current year) SOME (Year above)

Clearly differentiated outcomes (linked to progression document and APP in writing) 3 week units – assessment from the 1 st week feeds directly into subsequent week/s. Final assessment provides recommendations for opportunities to consolidate during the BIG Write

Book expectations Is there evidence of the whole learning journey? Per week we should see evidence of at least 3 pieces of work per week to include: ▫ VCOP and grammar development ▫ Planning of extended writing ▫ Extended writing ▫ Photographic evidence of a practical activity

Short write examples
