2. What we did Two English teachers took the Language & Literacy Course in July, 2007. They taught the course to all other English teachers at school in the first term of 2007- 2008. F.1 & F.4 teachers joined the school-based mentoring programme in the 2 nd term of the same year.

3. What we did F.4 teachers developed materials and tried them out in their classes. Students found nominal groups, mental and relational processes particularly useful. We decided to restructure the F.1 English curriculum in the following academic year. F.1 teachers developed the first unit of teaching based on Unit 7 of Longman Elect Book 1B during the summer vacation.

4. What we did They designed and implemented all other units of teaching for F.1 in 2008-2009. Students demonstrated greater interest in the subject. Students ’ learning effectiveness was enhanced as revealed by their writing assignments and examination scripts.

5. What we are doing F.1 teachers continue to refine the learning and teaching materials developed. F.2 teachers start to develop units of teaching for their form.

6. What we are going to do We plan to continue our curriculum development task in F.3 next year. Today, we are going to show you the scheme of work and the accompanying learning materials of the first unit of teaching for F.1. The scheme of work features elements of functional grammar and teaching-learning cycle. Students are taught how to write procedure and procedural recount.
