Christchurch (far right) is located in the southern part of New Zealand’s South Island. A major city, it is nestled among mountains and on the edge of Lake Wakatipu, a large New Zealand lake. This photo was taken on the drive from Wanaka, where we stayed, into the Queensland area. Interestingly, the valleys were lush, but the hills were barren—mostly rock and short grass.

Above: Lake Wakatipu is a very pretty lake surrounded by mountains. Right: Queensland, on the lake to the north, is a quaint city with several small beaches to enjoy.
3
A brightly painted speedboat was docked on the shore of the lake. New Zealanders, like Australians, enjoy speeding around their gorgeous lakes and harbors. No one was racing around this day; however, some ducks were enjoying the partially sunny afternoon.
4
A nearby park with this tribute to WWI was on the edge of the lake.
5
A nice building entitled “Eichardt’s Private Home” caught our attention—not sure what it was, however.

Judy and I found a very good Mexican restaurant for lunch.
9
The restaurant was light, airy, and served some great Mexican dishes.
10
Bob enjoyed a German beer (!) while eating good Mexican food. Note the very interesting hot sauce that was available in the restaurant.

An old church was interesting to visit while the Russells were in Queenstown. The walls were constructed with large, heavy stones.
12
A man was practicing his violin with a pianist; beautiful stained glass windows were on both sides of the sanctuary.
13
Near the old stone church was an exquisite wooden chapel and, close to the chapel, a home (probably a rectory). The home and church was situated in a very pretty little park. The visit to the two churches was nice and very relaxing.
14
East of Queensland is a huge, rugged set of mountains. On the back side, there was a small ski area for use in the winter months. Beyond that about 20 miles was the Kawarau Bridge, where Bob took his “leap of faith” bungee jump.
15
Across from the huge mountain was a unique stone fence that Bob’s camera documented.
