What is Colour? Colour is an element of art that is derived from reflected light. Colour is the most expressive element of art. Colour has 3 properties: Hue: the name of the colour (eg. Red, blue, etc.) Intensity: the purity and strength of a colour (eg. Bright red) Value: the lightness or darkness of a colour

Primary Colours Red, blue, and yellow are the primary colours.
They cannot be made from mixing others hues.

Secondary Colours The secondary colours are orange, green, and violet.
They are made by mixing two primary colours together.

Tertiary Colours Tertiary colours are made by mixing a primary colour with its secondary colour.

Tint A tint is a light value of a hue.
A tint is created by adding white to a colour.

Shade A shade is a dark value of a hue.
A shade is created by adding black to a colour.

Complimentary Colours
Complimentary colours are directly across from each other on the colour wheel. Mixing a colour with its compliment will neutralize the intensity of the colour.
