1 Colour Theory

2 What is Colour? Colour is an element of art that is derived from reflected light. Colour is the most expressive element of art. Colour has 3 properties: Hue: the name of the colour (eg. Red, blue, etc.) Intensity: the purity and strength of a colour (eg. Bright red) Value: the lightness or darkness of a colour

3 Primary Colours Red, blue, and yellow are the primary colours.
They cannot be made from mixing others hues.

4 Secondary Colours The secondary colours are orange, green, and violet.
They are made by mixing two primary colours together.

5 Tertiary Colours Tertiary colours are made by mixing a primary colour with its secondary colour.

6 Tint A tint is a light value of a hue.
A tint is created by adding white to a colour.

7 Shade A shade is a dark value of a hue.
A shade is created by adding black to a colour.

8 Complimentary Colours
Complimentary colours are directly across from each other on the colour wheel. Mixing a colour with its compliment will neutralize the intensity of the colour.
