Bellwork Read: Kelsey’s Story Write: Did Kelsey do anything wrong on the day of her rape? Kelsey decided not to report the rape. What are some reasons why she would not have wanted to report it? What do you think Kelsey should have done immediately after the rape?

Consent Law 1. Age of Consent: 16 years old legally have sex at 16 years old 2. Four year age difference: (applies at 16 and 17) At 16 and 17 years old, a person can legally have sex but only with someone who is less than 4 years older than them At age 18, the laws no longer apply

Privacy Law 1. Crime: sex in public or seen from a public area 2. Crime: display your private parts in public

Sexual Assault and Battery Law 1. Crime: to force someone to have sex or engage in sexual behavior (felony) 2. Crime: to touch someone on a private area that does not want to be touched (misdemeanor) 3. Crime: to write a sexual note to someone who does not want to receive it (misdemeanor) 4. Crime: to verbally harass someone sexually (misdemeanor) Note: 2 misdemeanor=felony Example: Grabbing a girl’s butt as you give her the sexual note (girl does not want to receive it)

Is it legal for a 19 year old girl to have sex with a 40 year old man? 4. Is it a crime for a married couple to have sex in their backyard? They do not have a fence. 5. A couple is engaging in sex. In the middle of sex, the girl changes her mind and asks to stop. The man continues. Is this rape? 6. Maria is extremely drunk. She does not want to have sex with Jose but does not say “no.” Is this rape?
