2 Balloting the EHR-S Public Health Functional Profile (PHFP)  PHFP was developed through co-sponsorship and support by the accredited standards development organization, Health Level Seven International (HL7): HL7 Electronic Health Record Work Group HL7 Public Health & Emergency Response WG  HL7 Work Groups ballot their products to obtain feedback from HL7 members and non-members on candidate standards

3 Why should you participate in the HL7 PHFP Ballot?  To review and provide feedback on the functional requirements and criteria for the additional Public Health domains included in this release of the profile  Previously balloted and included for reference only: Early Hearing Screening Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Chronic Diseases Cancer Surveillance Vital Records (Birth, Death and Fetal Death Reporting)  PH Domains included in this ballot : Birth Defects Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism Health Statistics Occupational Disease, Injury and Fatality Public Health Laboratory

4 Why should you participate in the HL7 PHFP Ballot?  To provide feedback on the PHFP structure and categorization  To learn more about the PHFP and consider possible relevance to your domain for future profile activities  To provide voting support for approval of the profile in the current HL7 May 2012 Ballot Cycle

5 Type of Feedback Needed on the PHFP  Are the SHALLs, SHOULDs, or MAYs in the criteria appropriate for the specific PH domain?  Are the conformance criteria an accurate measure of the function?  Is the level of detail appropriate in the conformance criteria? Direct Care (DC) 1.1.2 Function Title: Manage Selected Patient Demographics Conformance Criteria 1.The system SHALL capture demographic information as part of the patient record. 2.The system SHALL store and retrieve demographic information as discrete data.

6 How to Participate in the HL7 PHFP Ballot  Go to the HL7 Ballot Desktop at:  http://www.hl7.org/participate/onlineballoting.cfm?ref=nav http://www.hl7.org/participate/onlineballoting.cfm?ref=nav  Detailed instructions posted for member balloting and non- member participation  Non-members may be required to pay a nominal administrative fee  You must sign up to participate in the ballot pool  HL7 EHR-System Public Health Functional Profile, Release 1 – US Realm  Ballot Pool Enrollment Ends on April 29, 2012  PHFP Ballot Period – April 2, 2012 through May 7, 2012

8 What Happens After the HL7 PHFP Ballot Period?  HL7 EHR and PHER WGs will participate in a ballot reconciliation process to review and discuss the comments and proposed changes received during the ballot process  PHFP will be modified to reflect accepted changes  Submitters will be notified if additional information or clarification is needed to resolve a comment  All comments will need to be resolved before the standard may be considered for publication
