Mercury has a heavy core, made of iron. It makes up about 75% of the planet. In the daytime, Mercury can reach up to 800 F, and at night it can drop to -300 F. Venus is nearly the same size and density as Earth, but that's where the similarities end... Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system. On the surface, it's hot enough to melt lead (yikes!) Temperatures can reach 900 F Venus rotates in the opposite direction of all other planets Venus atmosphere is 96.5% carbon dioxide, what we exhale on Earth. Largest planet in our solar system. Jupiter's Great Red Spot. Jupiter does not have a solid surface; in fact, the atmosphere and surface are not completely separate and can merge together sometimes. It's a gas giant Jupiter's atmosphere is made mostly of hydrogen and helium, like the sun. Jupiter has some of the most interesting moons. Table of Contents

Saturn is the least dense planet. If there were an ocean big enough, Saturn would float in it. Saturn is most known for it's amazing rings, hundreds of thousands of miles wide. Saturn is the farthest planet that can be seen without the aid of a telescope. Table of Contents

Seventh planet from the sun Uranus is the only planet that actually spins on it's side, so it's poles rather than the equator face the Sun. Uranus also has rings, but they are black and hard to see. Neptune has some of the strongest winds in the Solar system, reaching up to 1,200 mi. (woah!) Neptune also has a storm spot (similar to Jupiter's), called the Great Dark Spot. Though it is the farthest planet from the Sun, Neptune generates twice the amount of energy it receives from the Sun.
